Live report: 13th April 2011, PORTUGAL. THE MAN(US) at l'International, Paris

Portugal. The Man(US) at l'International, Paris
The French webzine Albumrock about rock music organised that concert at l'International with Heiki, Portugal. The Man and Elvin Road. The same night you could see The Head and The Heart at Flèche d'Or and Her Name Is Calla at Espace B (a band I mentioned on the blog last year). But Portugal. The Man was the band to see! If you missed it, here's a very, very short review:

Heiki(FR)

Heiki is a French band from Toulon. Good songs. More post-rock songs with electric guitar than rock songs with lyrics.

Portugal. The Man(US)

On stage at around 10:25pm. This is an another great band from Portland! But I read that most of the band members come from Alaska! Not a folk band like Horse Feathers, but an experimental/alternative rock one, or anything you want. This was their first Paris gig  and it consisted of mainly non-French people in the audience, I heard people speaking American English and German. Pretty crowded for a Wednesday night. Portugal. The Man is an excellent band to listen to/discover live. I was glad that they played "People Say" to close the set. Then I got myself their physical album "The Satanic Satanist" released in 2009 on Approaching AIRballoons, Defiance and Equal Vision. It's a kind of colorful pop-up cover that wraps well the CD (full of great songs) and the lyrics poster. I've already seen very original album covers before, but not like that one. Don't miss their few dates in Zurich and in Germany before they go back touring the US. They're playing a gig with Telekinesis on April 29th in Portland and You Ain't No Picasso is giving away tickets, more details. They really have to come back soon in Paris.

They did many sessions years ago. Check out the ones with They Shoot Music and Daytrotter. And recently a cover of "Say My Name" by... Destiny's Child. haha nice. ;)

Elvin Road(FR)
Sorry, no review about that Paris band. I had to leave the place.

N.B: The venue should hire security guys to calm down the ones who make trouble voluntarily during a concert. Especially that venue. No joke.
