9:00pm.
He doesn't often play in Paris, and as I've never seen him perform before, I didn't want to miss him. I really like the last music video of his song 'Friends':

There were 4 musicians with François: a percussionnist, a bassist and two guitarists. They played catchy songs with afropop tunes. The only song I recognized was 'Be Water'/'Je Suis De L'Eau'. The album version of this song features the voices of Kate Stables from This Is The Kit, but she wasn't there because she played the same night in an another venue for her abum release party. François had a nice black shirt with glitter. The percussionnist was quite incredible. He hit the percussions with a drum stick and had a bunch of nutshells on his left knee. Their performance was quite nice, I saw many people dance. And Peter Broderick enjoyed the show from the first row. On the last songs, François jumped from the stage and danced a few seconds with Peter. That made people smile. :)

10.00pm.
Peter Broderick came last year in Paris in May for a gig with the German artist Nils Frahm (also one of my favorite artists) at Instant Chavirés and a gig at Nouveau Casino. I think I really discovered him via Terrible Love Songs' blog post about him in last August(thanks!). This Paris gig was announced last month or earlier and I didn't want to miss him. This 23-year-old multi instrumentalist is well-known for being the brother of the female singer Heather Woods Broderick and for his collaborations with the bands Efterklang, Wildbirds and Peacedrums, Horse Feathers, Laura Gibson, Machinefabriek, M.Ward (by the way, Peter played the strings on the last album by She & Him), and for his great albums including albums with only piano songs.

He played songs from his album 'Home' released in 2008 and none from his brilliant last album 'How They Are' released this September (review by The Line of Best Fit). I wish he'll play some of them next time. The design is awesome, it is made by his good friend Rutger Zuydervelt (aka Machinefabriek). You could watch the video version of some songs of this album on Hush Records' Youtube. My favorite one is 'Human Eyeballs On Toast'.

I enjoyed his performance a lot. Breathtaking. Truly amazing! He played guitar, piano, violin, saw, tambourine, and used delay pedals. His songs are not the kind of very, very slow songs that make you fall asleep or the kind of songs that make you dance, but the songs that you want to listen again and again and again. For some people it's the kind of melancholy songs that could make you cry without any reason, I guess. Songs that make you forget where you are and what you're doing. He performed a song written by his father and I think I forgot to breathe when he played it, gorgeous song... He also played saw on 'Not At Home', like Nathan Crockett from Horse Feathers. Impressive. The audience of about 120 people (?) was quite attentive and supportive. But I was a little annoyed that some photographers didn't stop to take pictures with their cameras in the whole show, especially during calm moments...
Every song looked like a surprise, you can't expect what he could do with his instruments and delay pedals. He was joined by the Swedish artist called Johan G. Winther, better known under the moniker Tsukimono(check it out!), especially on the songs 'Pappa I Sverige' and 'Chasing Kingdoms'. Johan toured with Peter for a few European dates by car. They were at the merchandise table before the 1st band played, hence the picture above.

You could find the two songs 'Pappa I Sverige' and 'Chasing Kingdoms' on the record "Peter Broderick and Johan G. Winther on Johan G. Winther and Peter Broderick" (I bought the vinyle and actually it's the 1st vinyle I bought... no regret) which will be released on 26th November 2010 on A Tenderversion Recording. It's "the first of the label's new "Re:Create Series" in which they will be recycling second-hand materials to construct the packaging of every release. As for the musical concept, both Peter and Johan decided to write a song about each other and then each covered each other's song, adding up to a grand total of four tracks."(Scandinavian music journal 'It's A Trap')

Very funny portraits. The 4 songs are awesome. Really like them.

I listened to the first songs of this band and didn't like them. Rock songs. The crowd seemed to like it. I didn't stay more longer. Sorry.

The set in Paris is very different to the one in London where he played Sideline, Human Eyeballs On Toast, Guilt's Tune, Pulling The Rain and Hello To Nils off How They Are. Anyway, thanks for this review, and especially for the videos which I will add to the Concert pages if that's okay with you. Thanks for mentioning the discography site!

@matt: Hi! Oh so, we got the old songs. Thanks so much for reading my review! You're welcome! Your discography site is very interesting and useful! :) It's ok for my videos. I embed some of the Youtuber Vutheara who I contacted. Could you give me the links to your concert pages then? x
